Auto Insurance Discounts May Become Portable

Just like the cell phone industry fought for you to be able to take your phone number from one company to another, the auto insurance industry in California wants you to be able to take your discounts with you.  According to Car insurance discount act could give break in prices, Nannette Miranda of Californias ABC News10 says that your continuous coverage car insurance discount could become portable.

If the 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act passes, any driver who receives a discount for retaining continuous auto insurance coverage from one company would be able to take their discount to another company.  If this does not pass, companies will still be prohibited from giving discounts based on past coverage with another auto insurance company.  This initiative does not take into account any type of discounts for being a good driver.

A campaign consultant argues that this will allow for greater competition in the marketplace as companies can charge better rates.  The Consumer Federation of California disagrees.  They say that people who have been uninsured for any period of time will be hurt by 40-50% surcharges on their insurance coverage, even if they were uninsured because they didnt have a vehicle.  Mercury Insurance tried to pass a similar initiative two years ago to no avail.  There are some people who believe Mercury is behind this initiative as well.

Health insurance costs could be offset by wellness

How happy are you on a scale of 1 to 10? How many days did you exercise last week? How many vegetables did you eat yesterday? How financially secure do you feel?

This isn’t a questionnaire people are filling out in the doctor’s office waiting room. It’s information their health-insurance company wants, and I’d be lying to say it doesn’t make me a little squeamish.

Employers are trying to lower their soaring health-care costs, and wellness is the industry’s favorite new antidote.

The wellness craze means that many of us now do things like fill out surveys with such intimate details as how we feel about our relationship with our boss or how supportive our family and friends are. Talk to a health coach about how many biceps curls we did during our last workout. Calibrate our pedometers and report, literally, every step we take to our employers.

And if we don’t do these things? Then many employers withhold financial incentives worth hundreds of dollars toward our deductibles and other insurance costs. Read more…

Cost of motoring roars ahead

The recent report issued by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) on the cost of running a car in the UK today, is enough to make anyone think twice before they get a motor insurance quote.

Fuel duty the main cause

According to the nationally recognised motoring group the price motorists pay to go about their business using a car has spiralled in the last 12 months. It will come as no surprise at all to motorists that driving is more expensive than ever before but the RAC reckon costs have increased by a massive 14% in the last year. The increases seem to cover every aspect of motoring but it is the fuel price that seems to have crippled long term motorists the most. This time last year petrol and diesel both cost less than £1.20 a litre, today drivers are paying on average £1.34 and £1.40 respectively. Fu

Compare.com van insurance

Buying van insurance is very much similar to buying any other insurance. I have been repeating this many times that comparing quotes online will get you an affordable insurance. But this is not all of it. A research done by compare.com van insurance has brought out few factors that affect the overall costing of the insurance. These factors vary depending on the type of insurance. In this post I am going to discuss factors that can increase or decrease the cost of the policy. These may be minute things but often play a leading role in determining the price of van insurance.

  1. Age of the driver: It may sound petty at first, but insurance companies consider age as a risk determining factor. This is basically because drivers of lower age are known for rough or fast driving making them more prone to accidents or smash ups. Thus drivers who are risky to cover will have to pay more for a van insurance policy.
