While it is a common perception that electric cars are a rather new entry onto our roadways, thats not really the case. Electric cars arent a new thing in fact, electric automobiles have been traveling on American roadways for more than a century.
The first successful electric automobile rolled off the assembly line in 1891, and electric cars were a viable option for consumers until the 1920s. By that period, advances in internal combustion engines, the cheap availability of gasoline, and the desire of drivers to be able to travel long distances had allowed internal combustion engines to dominate the roadways. The gas crisises of the 1970s got minds to thinking that perhaps it was time to give electric automobiles another look.
Electric motors offer more than loads of torque they also produce zero tailpipe emissions and may help alleviate environmental issues caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Unlike hybrid or mixed-mode cars like the Chevrolet Volt , electric cars burn no gasoline. They also may be cheaper to insure than traditional cars as well.
